CATEGORY: COMMUNITY/NON-PROFIT AWARD

WINNER: THE SHONA PROJECT

The Shona Project, founded by Tammy Darcy in honor of her big sister Shona, was established and launched from offices in Ireland. They celebrate women from all over the world, those who succeed and those who overcome, those who lead and those who think, those who win, and those who learn. They share these stories so that others don’t feel alone.  In their words, “we laugh, learn, try and cry together.”

Central to the philosophy of the Shona Project is allowing girls to figure out who they are and where they fit into this world. They acknowledge that there are many challenges; anxiety, depression, body image, self-esteem, boys, family drama, social media, exam stress, hormones, sexuality, relationships, bullying at play, meaning many girls feel like they do not fit in or belong anyway.

To try and alleviate these many issues, the organization visits schools all around Ireland to meet and talk to girls about how to find their place and identity. They encourage girls to be kind to each other, and especially to themselves.

They celebrate the achievements of powerful, successful, and inspiring women from Ireland and worldwide. They ask “experts” for advice on common issues. But, most importantly, The Shona Project gives young women a platform to share their own stories in the hope of helping others and proving that none of us is alone.

CATEGORY: RETAIL AND ECOMMERCE AWARD

WINNER: ONBUY

Founded by driven entrepreneur and CEO Cas Paton, OnBuy launched in November 2016 and has quickly become the fastest-growing marketplace in the world.

According to the company, “We saw what other major marketplaces offered and thought we could improve on this - so we did.”  In doing so, OnBuy created what they describe as “a fairer, more transparent marketplace that puts its buyers and sellers first.” Adopting this approach has offered users all the same advantages as the leading marketplaces, but in a new way, that benefits everyone.

To be fair and transparent, OnBuy does not compete with their sellers by selling anything themselves, and they never will. They exist to connect buyers with thousands of professional business sellers (and vice versa) to bring users a simple, secure shopping experience.

Since launching in 2016, OnBuy has welcomed sellers of all sizes onboard, from household names to smaller independent retailers. Their objective is to see their current exponential growth continue to become a global top 10 marketplace by 2023.
